Our Uniform

The Rockland County Firefighters Pipes & Drums, thought long and hard about Our Uniform of choice and selected one that is both visually appealing and respectful to Celtic heritage
.
Our kilt tartan is Robertson’s Hunting Modern. The Robertson’s are known as Clan Donnachaidh, Donnachaidh Reamar _stout Duncan-, led the Clan at the Battle of Bannockburn, in support of Robert The Bruce. There are many branches of the Clan and the surname comes from Robert, “Riach”, who was Chief of the Clan in the 15th Century. The Robertson’s supported The Jacobites and fought under both Montrose and Viscount Dundee in the 1715 and 1745 Up-Risings. The Robertson’s , claim to be descendants of The Celtic Earls Of Athol.

Our Sporran, Gaelic for purse, is a long horse- haired dress sporran, with a Fireman’s Maltese Cross in the center. The sporran acts as a wallet or pouch for necessary items or equipment, since traditional kilts do not have pockets.

Our hats are Glengarry Caps, the traditional folding cap of the Scottish Regiments.
Our Spats, which are a shoe accessory, are white. The Spats go over the shoes and are traditional in military dress.

Our tops. We have a few different tops that we wear. For warmer weather and indoor events, we wear a navy blue uniform dress shirt. For cooler weather we also have a long sleeved navy blue uniform shirt as well as red turtle neck shirts. The Band also has navy blue “commando” style sweaters for colder weather.

Miscellaneous

We wear navy blue wool socks.

The “Flash” are the Red fabric worn on the outside of the socks.

Our Bagpipes
Each Piper in the Band buys their own bagpipes and the choice of Pipe maker is entirely up to them. Bagpipes range in cost, from as low as a several hundred dollars to upwards of thousands of dollars
